A multi-phased update of a mid-century gem for a young, growing family.
We have a soft spot for everything mid-century modern and so were ecstatic when we were selected to assist a young, growing family with their updates to a newly purchased 1950’s home that steps down a dramatic canyon in San Diego’s desirable South Park neighborhood. We respected the home’s original character which embodied the quintessential priorities of the modern mid-century aesthetic while making interventions to outdated areas so that the house would function for this modern family. In phase one we simplified circulation so that the kitchen and master bathroom could be enlarged; updated the kitchen so that it would serve large gatherings of family and friends; and reworked the master bathroom to add natural light, a dual vanity and clean modern fixtures and materials. In phase two we enlarged and updated a second bathroom, refreshed the main entry sequence and replaced some exterior windows and doors for better function and increased curb appeal. -- Photos by studio MAHA --
